A man who was seen in a viral video kicking a woman in the back near Bank Negara has been arrested by the police, The Star Online reports.
City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh told the news portal that the 33-year-old man was picked up in Jinjang at 11.30pm on Friday.
“We were alerted about the incident after an auxiliary policeman on duty at Bank Negara lodged a police report.
“The woman was walking along a connecting bridge from Bank Negara to Sogo Shopping Complex when a man suddenly kicked her,” Comm Amar said in a statement as cited by The Star.
In the 35-second video clip – which has been viewed 1.3 million times and shared more than 22,000 times on Facebook – the man was seen approaching the woman from behind and without warning, kicked her in the back before calmly walking away.
“The woman suffered injuries to her left cheek and received treatment at the Pantai Hospital in Bangsar.
“Based on our investigations, the man was previously charged with trespassing into Bank Negara armed with a parang.
“We believe the suspect has committed the same acts near Bank Negara but no victim had come forward to lodge a police report,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the suspect will be remanded for further investigations.
According to Comm Amar, the case was investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
