Man arrested for allegedly posting insulting statement against Johor crown prince

A man has been detained for allegedly posting statements on social media that insulted Johor’s crown prince, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. 

The Star Online’s Kathleen Ann Kili reports that police picked up the 23-year-old assistant chef at Taman Intan in Dengkil, Selangor at 8pm yesterday.

“He had allegedly uploaded the offensive message via Facebook to offend and insult Tunku Ismail. We have also confiscated a mobile phone and a sim card and the suspect will be under remand for investigations,” Johor police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd was quoted as saying in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under  Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998. If found guilty, the suspect could be fined up to RM50,000 or jailed not more than 12 months or both.
