The body of a two-year-old boy was found stuffed inside a cooler box at a flat unit in Sungai Petani on Thursday.
According to a report by The New Straits Times, the police made the gory discovery after receiving a call from one of the residents of Flat Paya Nahu about a domestic quarrel.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Zukir Md Isa told the daily that when the police arrived at the scene at around 2am, a woman later identified as the boy’s mother told the officers that her boyfriend had abused her 4-year-old daughter.
When questioned further, the woman then reportedly told the police about the body inside the cooler box.
ACP Md Zukir said initial investigations revealed that the boy, who was wrapped in a blanket, is believed to have died more than two weeks ago due to physical abuse.
The toddler’s sister, according to ACP Md Zukir, was also reportedly in a bad shape when she was found.
She is currently being treated at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.
Meanwhile, The Star Online reported that the police have picked up a 34-year-old man, the woman’s boyfriend, in connection with the case.
The toddler’s mom was also reportedly arrested to facilitate in investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
