Malaysia’s police officers have been warned not to appear on TikTok in their uniforms after one of them went viral on the platform dancing to Black Eyed Peas while on duty.
Inspector-General Abdul Hamid Bador, who is the head police chief for the entire country, said in front of reporters yesterday that such behavior was disrespectful to the police force.
“It is not sweet or cute when a uniformed police officer is seen dancing on TikTok,” Abdul said at the Royal Malaysian Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur. “It is disrespectful towards the uniform, and our work culture.”
TikTok user only known as @Jyusoff had danced to the American group’s 2009 hit Pump It at what looks like a roadblock while wearing the police uniform. A video recording of it was posted last week before her account was deleted.
The police then launched an internal investigation involving her, but it was not clear what the scope of the probe was and whether she would be penalized for the video.
