Malaysia’s meteorological department has shut down rumors that the country was going to become as cold as London come February.

The weather agency said this today in response to rumors citing a 2016 report that winter just like in the England capital was expected to land in Malaysia. The old report had been circulating on social media platforms including WhatsApp as Malaysia experiences cooler weather, heavy rain, and cloudy skies.

In today’s statement, it noted that the report was being resurfaced and was “false information.”

The country has been experiencing cool weather in recent days amid the monsoon season. Temperatures fell to between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius in Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor on Sunday.

“However, this is common as rain and clouds appear throughout the day,” the weather department said, urging the public to turn to reliable sources for information.
