A member of the Malaysian delegation to the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea has become one of the latest athletes to test positive for drugs at the event.
China’s Xinhua news agency reports that an unnamed Malaysian male wushu exponent and a Cambodian female soft tennis player were the latest athletes at the Asian Games to test positive for dope.
However, The Star Online‘s Starsports Team reports that there has been no official confirmation on the matter from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Malaysians chief de mission Danyal Balagopal said he was aware of the allegations in the Xinhua report.
“At this moment, there is no official word from the OCA. I will meet the OCA officials tomorrow (today). It could be an error,” he said.
Malaysia is being represented by four male wushu exponents at the Incheon Games: Loh Jack Chang, Lee Yang, Ho Mun Hua and sanshou boxer Lee Wei Loong.
The Malaysian wushu team delivered the country’s first gold medal at the Incheon Games on September 20 when Tai Cheau Xuen won the women’s nanquan and nandao all-round event.
Thus far, the OCA has announced only one doping case in connection to the Asian Games, that of Tajikistan footballer Khurshed Beknazarov who tested positive for the banned substance methylhexaneamine on September 14.
