Australian Khoo Lay Foon, a former prostitute, is on trial, accused of luring her Malaysian childhood friend to Perth with a plane ticket, and forcing her to work in a brothel.

Police say she arranged for the flight December 2015, and upon arrival, confiscated her friend’s passport. The Malaysian woman was told that she would have to work off the debts that Khoo had incurred arranging her travel, totaling AUS$1,900. Until then, Khoo would keep her passport.

The woman spent a week in the brothel before going to police.

According to Perth Now, Khoo had schemed to trap her so-called friend so as to make money from her, telling the brothel madame that her friend was “young and very pretty.”

Khoo claims that the friend asked to be taken to the brothel, and had in fact, left Malaysia due to financial troubles with ah long (loan sharks).

The ensuing trial has revealed that Khoo herself worked as a prostitute for three months after relocating to Western Australia in 2015.

She left the job when she found a boyfriend; however, it’s claimed she acted as a go-between for foreign women looking to working in the sex industry.
