Malaysian woman found dead on Mount Rinjani in Indonesia

A Malaysian woman was reportedly found dead on an Indonesian mountain on Tuesday.

The Jakarta Post reported that a search and rescue (SAR) team was deployed to Mount Rinjani in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara to recover the body, identified as 24-year-old Yin Teck, on Wednesday.

Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) head Agus Budi Santoso told the news portal that the team was first alerted to the discovery on Tuesday evening.

Agus added that he suspected the woman had ignored warnings against hiking to the top of Mount Rinjani – which at 3,726 meters is the second-tallest volcano in Indonesia – following the recent eruption of Mount Barujari, a sub-volcano of Mt. Rinjani.

Two climbing routes, according to Agus, was closed in anticipation of another eruption.

“We have repeatedly warned tourists against climbing the mountain during the route closure,” he was quoted as saying.

The victim’s body was reportedly sent to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Mataram for a post mortem.
