The primary role of a teacher is to impart knowledge about specific subjects and nurture the talents and abilities of their students. However, this was not the case for a young elementary school student who was humiliated by her teacher in front of her classmates by making derogatory comments about her body.
A 30-second video of the incident, which has gained 300k views, shows the girl crying uncontrollably, with the accompanying caption reading: “My child was body-shamed by her teacher in front of her peers.”
The girl tearfully recounted to her mother, who was filming the video, what her teacher had said: “How can you ever hope to get married if you are fat?”
“The teacher even compared her to her skinnier friends,” the caption read.
“From afar, I could see her crying. When she entered the car, she was all teary-eyed.”
The parent stated that the issue had been resolved, as they chose to take the high road and not seek retribution against the teacher for their behavior.
“The case was resolved when I made a complaint to the headmaster. The teacher has been asked to produce a show cause letter, but I made the decision to take the higher road.”
“I hope this matter will serve as a lesson to the teacher and others. Body shaming should not be normalised. Kids too have feelings, she is only in Standard Four.”
Social media users who engaged with the post also recounted their own memories of being fat-shamed by their teachers while the majority were angry at the teacher.
