Report: Malaysian student injured in Bastille Day attack in Nice

A Malaysian student was reportedly injured in the Bastille Day terror attack in Nice, France on Thursday.

According to Singaporean news portal The Straits Times, Esmond Chuah, a third-year student from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Esmond’s condition is reportedly “not life threatening” and he is in contact with his parents.

He was reported to be among 12 SUTD students who are in Nice for a three-week summer programme which began on July 3.

The group was reportedly due to return next week.

Esmond’s father, Chuah Tze Leng, had earlier appealed for more information on his son’s condition on Facebook.

“Please find my son Esmond Chuah Hooi Ong (SUTD Singapore) who injured himself in the Nice, France attack this morning. Wish to know his condition now,” he posted on the social media site.

On Thursday, an armed man deliberately drove a cargo truck into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, killing at least 87 people and injuring hundreds more.
