A senator’s calls to make Malaysia Airlines uniforms shariah-compliant to reflect the fact that Malaysia is a Muslim country fell upon largely deaf ears on Tuesday.

While resources could certainly be directed at defining what Senator Datuk Hanafi Mamat meant, seeing as there are varying iterations of what one might describe as appropriate Muslim dress, many netizens wondered if there were better uses of time and money.

The iconic batik kebaya uniform recognized the world over as being that of a Malaysian Airlines cabin crew member has always garnered widespread praise. Many would agree it’s beautiful pattern marries pleasantly with a universally flattering fit. Stylish, and culturally apropos.

Look how happy everyone is with this uniform?!

However, the sartorially sassy senator disagreed with popular opinion, classifying the cabin crew’s dress as “sexy and disrespectful” and something that would give tourists “the wrong impression.”

Sir, you may be overthinking the kebaya, at this point.
