The Malaysian navy has handed over the found remains of a sailor who was aboard the USS John S McCain when it was in a collision with an oil tanker in the Melaka Straits. The handover happened yesterday when a US helicopter landed on KD Lekiu to collect them.

The body was found 8 nautical miles (15km) from the point of impact between the US ship and the Liberian-registered MV Alnic MC. The Malaysian Navy has reiterated their commitment to assisting all parties in the recovery of the missing sailors, as the search area has been widened to 488 nautical miles (900km), and the zones of interest expanded from four to nine.

The search has so far been stunted by choppy seas and strong winds.
