Malaysian mom wins Mrs Tourism Queen International beauty pageant in Thailand

Sangeet Kaur Manjit Singh, a 41-year-old mother of two from Ipoh, has become the first Malaysian to win the Mrs Tourism Queen International beauty pageant.

She was crowned Mrs Global Tourism 2023 at the finals held in Nong Khai, Thailand on April 15, beating 18 other finalists from around the world. Sangeet also won first runner-up for the best national costume, wearing a traditional Iban warrior attire called Ngepan.

Sangeet expressed her elation at winning the title at an international pageant for married women, saying that as a child, she used to dress up in her mother’s lipstick and shawl, pretending to be a beauty queen.

“I always believe in following your passion, being prepared to work hard and make sacrifices, and above all, never letting anyone limit your dreams,” she told The Star.

“Dreams do come true!” she said.

This was Sangeet’s first time participating in a beauty pageant, despite being an education consultant from Ipoh, Perak.

Despite her age, Sangeet said she was mentally and physically prepared to compete, describing herself as a fitness enthusiast who enjoys travelling and crossfit.

“I feel fit compared [to] when I was a teenager, all thanks to the workouts that I started doing three years ago,” she said.

Her family was supportive of her participation, and she is now an ambassador for tourism in Malaysia, focused on promoting ecotourism and advocating for sustainability in the tourism industry.
