Arysan Ismail, a 34-year-old Malaysian gamer, has become the only person in the country to buy the Acer Predator 21 X, at an eye-watering RM40,000 (US$9,000).
It’s the world’s most powerful, and most expensive, gaming laptop ever made.
Calling it a laptop is a bit of a stretch. It weights nearly 20 lbs, and comes to you in a custom-built Pelican case.
The Predator 21 X has all the qualities of a laptop – built-in screen, keyboard, mouse, batteries. So, if it looks like a laptop, sounds like a laptop and boots-up like a laptop… It must be a laptop. A very big one.
Arysan, who runs his own IT start-up, made waves on social media, with many comparing the cost of the computer to that of a Myvi (a popular Malaysia-made car).
I got a lot of love for the humble Myvi, but let’s refrain from making any comparisons to the Predator 21 X. It’s basically the F1 car of laptops. A super-heavy one.
The laptop has a 21-inch curved screen, a tobii eyetracker, a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 64GB of DDR4 2400 memory, a 5-fan cooling system, 4 Dolby Audio Premium speakers with 2 subwoofers.
It is Virtual Reality-ready.
Great. So are we.
You can read a full review from The Verge here, where they go into pretty in-depth detail over its power, and add that you may be disappointed with the battery life.
And Arsyan had the perfect answer to alllll those wondering about spending so much money on something he clearly loves – “life is short, enjoy what you can, buy while you still can.”
YOLO, everyone.
