A Malaysian cook living in Singapore has been sentenced to 30 months jail, and three strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to stealthily filming his sister in law in the shower, and subsequently molesting her.
The 26-year-old suspect had bought a mini camera whose internal device was only the size of a 10-cent coin. Placing it on the water heater in the bathroom that he shared with the victim and her younger sister, his wife, he recorded five videos of her in the shower.
The cook, who has gone unnamed to protect the identity of the victim, then kept three of the videos on his mobile phone. Finding himself alone with his sister in law at home, he went into her room to show her his video project. One can imagine that he was hoping for a positive response.
He did not receive one, and she told him to get out of her room. He then attacked her, pushing the victim onto her bed and molesting her. He slapped her, and attempted to prevent her from leaving. Getting up to turn on the air-conditioning (ew), she took the opportunity to run out of the room, and was able to contact her brother, who alerted police.
The defense attorney asked for leniency, claiming his client was remorseful and that he had let his “impulses … go out of control” (not an excuse, or explanation – but maybe reason to lock someone up longer, really).
His lawyer added the understatement of the year, saying that the attack had “greatly affected” his client’s marriage. He added that he didn’t want to miss out on his three-year-old daughter’s young life.
Sounds to us like this guy has a lot of stuff to sort out before he can lament not being able to run daddy daycare.
