Malaysian fishermen released, now back home in Sekinchan

Two Malaysian fishermen who were detained in Indonesia on March 3 for allegedly trespassing, have been released and reunited with their families.

According to The Star Online, Heng Chee Yong, 29, and Chua Lee Teck, 46, spent more than 100 days in jail at Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia before authorities decided to release them.

The report said they were picked up by a Malaysian Marine Department vessel around 5.15pm yesterday and taken to Pantai Redang.

They reached their hometown in Sekinchan at 5.30pm yesterday.

It was reported that the two men were released after the Malaysian government spoke to Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo to pardon them.
