A Malaysian on a work trip to Japan gave his life after saving three people from a mishap at sea.
On Tuesday, Tan Hee Shiang, 21, went on a jet-ski ride with his Malaysian colleagues and a Japanese partner at Satsuki Matsubara Beach near Fukuoka. When his Japanese partner’s jet-ski overturned, stranding him and two friends in the sea, Tan rushed to their rescue.
Tan allowed his partner and one other to ride his jet-ski while he and the other rescued person to be towed by a rope attached to the jet-ski.
When the group arrived ashore, Tan was nowhere to be found.
A rescue team later found Tan’s body floating in the water.
Tan’s father, Tan Keat Lai, told The Star Online his son was a purchasing officer at an auto parts company, and travelled to Japan regularly on business trips.
Tan’s family went to Japan last night to bring his cremated ashes home to Malaysia, with assistance from the Malaysian embassy in Japan and the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department.
