Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace was the site of The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, a showcase of wares created by fashion talents from across 53 Commonwealth countries.
Malaysia’s fashion darling, Bernard Chandran, represented our country at the prestigious event. Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, was the evening’s host. Fashion legends like Stella McCartney and Naomi Campbell were also in attendance.
The designer managed to capture a private moment with the Duchess, uploading the photo to his Instagram account along with the caption “SHE WANTS TO KNOW MORE.” The caps are his, not ours – but we can feel his excitement.

The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange aims to provide inspiration for fashion to make a positive impact on people’s lives across the world, whether it’s sustainable practices, or women’s empowerment.
Focusing on detail and craftsmanship, 30 sustainably-produced handcrafted ball gowns were unveiled, in total representing the creative skills, cultures and identities from across the globe.
In addition to Chandran, designers from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India were also invited, representing the Commonwealth’s 2.4 billion citizens around the world, and the potential that they have to make a difference.
Chandran began his fashion career in the early 90s after studying the craft in Paris. His wares take great inspiration from local Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures, and he regularly showcases around the world.
