It seems no Malaysian election can begin without some drama and surprises.

During today’s nomination day for GE15, Malaysian celebrity Mohamed Azwan Ali, aka Diva AA, stole the show in Gombak Kuala Lumpur when he started sobbing in front of the media and explained why he was not running against his brother, Gombak’s incumbent MP Mohamed Azmin Ali from Perikatan Nasional.

“It’s because of the whispers of my late Mak Tok (mother)…” Azwan said between sobs.

“She comes to me in my dream, advising me not to contest,” The Vibes quoted Azwan as saying.

Azwan had already declared his intention to challenge his brother at Gombak, but following his mother’s advice from the afterlife, he changed his mind and has opted not to run.

He has since said he would support Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the election.

Azwan’s brother, Azmin, was one of the many politicians who defected from the PH coalition, which resulted in its fall in February 2020 after it lost its majority in parliament.

Malaysia will go to the polls on Nov. 19.
