Malaysian Arrested for Making Bomb Threats to Singapore’s Woodlands Checkpoint

Because if there’s anything Malaysia and Singapore need to have more of between them, it’s … whatever this is.

A 41 year old Malaysian man was apprehended on Tuesday for making a bomb threat call to the operations room of the Singaporean Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) at Woodlands Checkpoint, said local police in a statement.

The ICA recceived a call on Monday morning from someone claiming to be a Singaporean living in Malaysia.

The caller said he had to frequently travel into Singapore and was frustrated with the traffic congestion at the Causeway over the previous few days. Before ending the call, the caller threatened to send a bomb to the Woodlands Checkpoint, according to the police statement.

The ICA alerted the police and stepped up security measures as police investigators traced the call.

The suspect, who is said to be a Malaysian and a Singapore permanent resident, was arrested at 7.40pm at the Tuas Checkpoint. Investigations have revealed that the threat was in fact a hoax.
