One after another, Malaysians have been making waves across the globe.
First, that ‘physics defying’ free kick from our very own footballer that the whole world is talking about, and now Kelantan-born scientist Hafizah Noor Isa is making headlines for being part of the team of scientists who proved Albert Einstein’s gravitational waves theory.
The Star Online‘s Michelle Tam reported that Hafizah — a PhD candidate at the University of Glasgow—was among those who wrote the headline-grabbing scientific paper, “Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger’.

She had been reportedly been part of the United States’ LIGO-led (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) project via her contribution in the GEO600 experiment.
Hafizah drew praises from all corners, including from Universiti Putra Malaysia physics professor Hishamuddin Zainuddin, who posted his congratulatory message on Facebook, along with excerpts from the paper.
“Was happy that she came to the talk by Prof. Martin Henry that we organized in UPM on Gravitational Wave Astronomy. Little things like this make us happy,” he said in a comment on the same post.
Tahniah, Hafizah!
