Malaysian actress claims trial for allegedly hurting woman

Veteran local actress Lydiawati appeared before the magistrate court on Monday to claim trial for allegedly causing hurt.

The 51-year-old actress, whose real name is Salina Zaimon, was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to 43-year-old businesswoman Sharifah Harnizam Wan Musa by using a steel object at a hotel in Ampang on 24 March.

Lydiawati apparently took matters into her own hands after growing tired of the incessant sexual harassment she received from the businesswoman. In two videos uploaded onto her Facebook page, Lydiawati was seen confronting and hitting the victim, as well as kicking and throwing a chair at the her while she was lying on the floor. The videos were widely shared on social media.

 

Lydiawati was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code and if convicted, Lydiawati could be sentenced up to 10 years in jail, a fine or whipping.

The magistrate has fixed a mention on 24 June.
