The Malaysian government is taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of its citizens in Sudan amid the ongoing conflict in the country.

Zambry Abd Kadir, the Foreign Minister, has stated that the government will work closely with various agencies, including the National Disaster Management Agency, the National Security Council, and the Royal Malaysian Police to bring Malaysians back home safely.

In addition, Wisma Putra, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been in contact with other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, UAE, China, the United States, and the United Nations to expedite the repatriation process of Malaysians from Sudan.

“Currently, the situation in the country is still tense due to the fighting between the two warring factions which is reported to be still intense, especially in strategic areas in Khartoum.

“Khartoum International Airport has not yet reopened and this makes it difficult to plan to bring out foreigners from various countries including Malaysia,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The conflict in Sudan, involving the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has caused political turmoil and posed a severe threat to the country’s security.

In response, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah recommended that the government prepare to bring home Malaysians stranded in Sudan if the situation escalates.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also assured Malaysians that the government is closely monitoring the conflict in Sudan and will bring back its citizens who are in the country if it poses a risk to their safety.

Zambry added that all 29 Malaysians in Sudan have followed the advice of the Malaysian Embassy in Khartoum to remain indoors.

Wisma Putra has activated “Operation Sudan,” a special team that is on duty 24/7 since the crisis started.

This team, joined by various agencies, has made careful preparations to ensure the safety and welfare of Malaysians in Sudan. They are also in constant contact with the Malaysian Embassy in Khartoum to provide essential needs such as food and medicine to Malaysians in Sudan.
