Malaysia set to host one of the world’s biggest eSports events

eSports fever is set to hit Malaysia!

Malaysia is set to become a stop for one of the world’s oldest and largest eSports tournament, the ESL One, next year.

In a collaboration between Electric Sports League (ESL) and Resorts World Genting, Malaysia will play host to the first ‘Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA2)’ tournament for the ESL One in 2017.

Eight teams of professional online gamers – including one from Malaysia – will be battling it out for a prize pool of USD250,000 (RM1mil).

“eSports is a massive and growing industry globally, and we hope to play a meaningful role in developing the local and regional market.

“We are proud to be collaborating with ESL, the world’s biggest professional provider of eSports that offers not just tournaments like ESL One but also news, live broadcasts and support in the eSports community,” Resorts World Genting Vice President Kevin Tann was quoted by eSports site Mineski as saying.

The ESL One is set to take place from January 6 to January 8 at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands.

Malaysia will now join a host of other cities such as New York, Cologne and and Frankfurt as one of the premiere sites for ESL One, so #MalaysiaBoleh?
