Malaysia deported another pro-democracy activist from Hong Kong today

Just days after telling 18-year old Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong to turn back and head home, Malaysian authorities today deported yet another pro-democracy advocate from the Chinese territory.

Hong Kong legislative council member Leing Kwok-hung, nicknamed “Long Hair” for his refusal to cut his hair until Beijing issues an apology for 1989’s Tiananmen Square massacre, was told to board a plane and head back to Hong Kong immediately after touching down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport this afternoon.

The Malay Mail Online reports that Leung was scheduled to speak at a forum in Petlaing Jaya commemorating the anniversary of the Chinese government’s crackdown on student-led protests in Tiananmen Square.

Also expected to speak at the forum were the already-deported Wong and Singaporean activist Han Hui Hui.

Wong will likely still address the attendees of the PJ forum, albeit via Skype.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar justified WOng’s deportation on Wednesday by saying that Malaysia did not want Wong’s anti-China rhetoric to sour relations between Putrajaya and Beijing.

Malay-Muslim right-wing organisation ISMA’s legal wing, iPeguam, also accused Wong of being a “Christian agent” bent on subverting Malaysian Muslims and teaching Malaysians how to “interpret democratic principles in our own land”.
