Malay-Muslim NGO calls out Astro on awarding contract to Israeli company

Amidst outcry in Malaysia and around the world over the ongoing conflict between Israeli armed forces and Hamas-ruled Gaza in Palestine, a Malay-Muslim NGO has demanded satellite TV provider Astro to explain why it awarded a work contract to a company based in Israel … or the pay TV giant could face a boycott of its services.

The Islamic Da’wah Foundation Malaysia (Yadim) through its chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki called into question Astro’s decision to award software firm Amdocs Limited a contract to supply the satellite TV provider a “next-generation consolidated Subscruber Management System”.

In a Facebook post on his personal page yesterday, Asyraf demanded Astro explain its business relationship with Amdocs, and lined to a Haaretz article lauding the inking of the deal. He also linked to anothe Haaretz piece confirming Amdocs as being an Israeli company.

Asyraf, who is also an UMNO Supreme Council member, called on Malaysians to boycott Astro and its services should the company fail to adequately explain its ties to Amdocs, in the name of “protesting the slaughter of Palestinians”.
