A cosmetic tycoon has found himself under fire after his adoption of a newborn baby girl has been labeled by many across social media as “a purchase,” reports Harian Metro.

Datuk Aliff Syukri, the D’Herbs Holdings Sdn Bhd founder, is no stranger to controversy.

You might remember that in June his home was raided after animal welfare authorities were called to his house out of concern for his Savannah cat, Dodi. Wildlife officials found the big cat living inside its toilet.

Classy.

Aliff deflected the accusations of cash-for-baby by saying that it was irrelevant, as the baby would be raised as part of the family.

Comforting.

He told the paper that “My intention is to take good care of her, just like my own, and I want pahala (divine rewards) in the hereafter.”

Excuse me? I’m no expert, but I’m not sure that’s how it works.

The baby, named Ameena Aliffsha, already has her own Instagram account @babyterlajaklaris – set up by her social media savvy new parents.

Users began to accuse Aliff and his wife of taking advantage of the baby’s mother, who herself is in a vulnerable position.

However, the makeup millionaire maintains that although the couple received “many offers” of mothers who wanted to exchange babies for money, Ameena’s mother asked for nothing.

He went on to say that his wife felt “really comfortable with her mother, who has a good heart and does not want anything from us.”

When asked how his wife, Datin Nur Shahida Mohd Rashid, became aquainted with the mother, he explained that the two met through Facebook. A totally normal place for people to meet when you’re trying to just, you know, give away your baby and looking for someone seeking rewards in the afterlife.

Gotta be a Facebook group for that, ammirite?!
