Social media was abuzz this week after a flabbergasted Melaka restaurant owner was faced with a forgotten toddler, and images of the tot were subsequently uploaded to Twitter in hopes of finding the parents who left him behind at an ikan bakar (grilled fish) restaurant.

Fellow dinners noticed the boy late Sunday night, after he fell asleep on top of one of the tables. Approaching him, the three-year-old boy could only tell shocked patrons that his parents had gone home.

Angered by the carelessness of the boy’s family, one social media user uploaded an image of the boy, writing in the caption: “Shocking! After satisfying their appetites with ikan bakar, a family leaves their son behind, sleeping on a table!”

New Strait Times reports that the boy was part of a party of 30 who had driven down from KL to eat at Irsyad Hadi Zainal’s restaurant.

Now crying, Irsyad took the boy from table to table, hoping that the boy had simply wandered over to a different side of the establishment. However, no one claimed the boy, and he soon fell asleep in the owner’s arms.

Speaking to NST, the owner was minutes away from filing a police report when a man called, claiming to be the boy’s father. Eventually, the boy and his family were reunited in the early hours of the morning.

Worried over the boy’s safety, Irsyad took the father’s identity card information, adding that he had never experienced such negligence in his 18 years running a restaurant.
