The Home Ministry continues to flex its mandated muscles with the announcement that it will commence operations to round up and deport undocumented foreign workers (PATI) in the country.
Home Minister Dauk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the operations will begin as soon as the Special PATI Management Program (PKPP) ends on January 20. The operation scheduled to begin at 12.01am on January 21 is to be a joint undertaking involving agencies under the Home Ministry’s jurisdiction, namely the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysian Police, and the Malaysian Volunteer Department (Rela).
“We will not extend the grace period after the PKPP ends. There will be neither pardons nor remorse from the government,” Ahmad Zahid said. As such, employers have 10 more days to register their foreign manpower who are still undocumented.”
The PATI detained during this operation will be processed for deportation back to their country of origin, with the cost being borne either by the workers themselves, their employers or their respective embassies.
