Three women fled their employer last night, alleging abuse while working as maids for an unnamed Tan Sri (an honorific title that can bestowed by a Malaysian state sultan for public service) at his house in the upmarket, exclusive Country Heights development, one hour outside of Kuala Lumpur.

The trio, all Indonesian nationals, absconded into the night last week; however, police only alerted the public of the situation this morning.

Embassy officials from Indonesia filed a report on March, claiming that the trio were abused not only by the Tan Sri, but by his wife as well, saying they were punched and slapped. According to the report, they also had their passports seized, and salaries withheld.

An unidentified man is said to have helped the three victims, aged between 25 and 41, after they climbed a fence to escape the home. Each had worked for the employers for seven years, four years, and the third, only six months.

A police statement today clarified that medical checks on the victims showed no signs of physical, mental, or sexual abuse, but did confirm that the women’s personal documents were being held by the suspect’s secretary.

They are currently being kept at a safe house, and are under police protection.
