The MACC has no idea why the Attorney-General cancelled his meeting with them today

The oversight committees of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are wondering along with the rest of nation as to why Attorney-General Apandi Ali called off his meeting with them today.

Sources told The Sun Daily‘s Rajvinder Singh that they were only informed of Apandi’s cancellation yesterday evening, with no reason given.

Members of MACC’s oversight panels say the meeting was an annual occurence, and they could think of no reason why the A-G would opt to not conduct it this year.

Today’s cancelled meeting would have focused on Apandi’s decision to close all inviestigations into the controversial RM2.6 billion “political donation” that was funneled into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts in 2013.

The MACC was conducting probes into former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd, which had been implicated in moving the RM2.6 billion into Najib’s accounts, when Apandi announced on January 26 that the investigations were to be closed.

Apandi cited his “absolute discretion” in deciding whether or not to pursue cases such as the one surrounding MACC’s probe into SRC.

A source privy to MACC operations told The Sun that a replacement meeting between the MACC and the A-G might be scheduled for next week.
