Finally, there are some good news for those who rely on public transportation to get around.
Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail commuters are entitled to refunds if their trains are 15 minutes late.
The Star Online quoted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri as saying that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the company that runs both rapid train systems, will refund its customers who experienced delays due to train breakdown or other unforeseen circumstances.
Commuters who wish to claim a refund will be given a coupon which they could use as a ticket for a replacement journey the next day, Nancy was further quoted as saying.
She added that the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), which is scheduled to start operations next month, would also follow the same policy.
On Tuesday, Prasarana clarified via a statement cited by the news portal that the coupons were only for one-way journeys and valid for five days from the date of the issuance.
The refund is only applicable to those who bought the tickets but decided not to board the train following the delay.
Commuters who continued their journey after the delay are not entitled for a refund, Prasana said in the statement.
This came after Prasana suffered back-to-back power failures along the Kelana Jaya LRT line in September, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded while on their way to work.
The power failures prompted Prasarana to refund affected passengers and offer them free rides for three days.
