Conventional wisdom dictates that observant Muslims (and their strict fathers) generally frown upon the whole dating thing… but that might be about to change, if a new local matchmaking firm has anything to say about it.
HalalSpeedDating.com is the bainchild of three friends — Norhayati Ismail, Zuhri Yuhyi, and Syed Azmi Alhabshi — who wanted to provide a more Syariah-compliant social platform on which singles could get to know one another and maybe find life partners… in the name of the Almighty.
For a fee of RM45, singles hoping to hook up (for lack of a better term) the Islamic way can look forward to sin-free interaction with potential love interests, all while being supervised by a wali (guardian of a potential bride), mahram (blood relation), or a chaperone.
Sorry, walis, mahrams, and chaperones — you’ll have to pay RM30 to get in on a speed dating social night, yourself.
Norhayati told The Star Online‘s Nurbaiti Hamdan that HalalSpeedDating’s events aren’t just for Muslims — they’re just conducted Islamically.
“What if a non-Muslim wants to find a Muslim wife? We cannot shut the door. Or a non-Muslim wants to learn what is the proper way of courting (in Islam). So we leave it open,” she said.
If you’re in the mood for love (of God), you can check out HalalSpeedDating’s official website, or head over to their Facebook page.
