It’s the kind of stuff that makes you want to yell, “And that’s why you can’t have nice things!”
At 3.45am this morning, a man, decked out in a motorcycle helmet, gloves, and a dark grey jacket, planted a homemade bomb to an ATM in Sungai Nibong, Penang in order to abscond with the cash tucked inside.
It did not go as well as he had hoped.
CCTV footage of the ATM shows the suspect affixing the bomb to the cash deposit machine, with an explosion going off a few moments later.
But plot twist! The bomb, which pretty much wrecked the ATM casing, didn’t make a dent in the vault inside, which of course keeps the machine’s cash.
Balik Pulau OCPD Superintendent Lai Fah Hin told The Star Online‘s Christopher Tan that the explosive, believed to be a homemade pipe bomb, managed to rip apart the ATM and part of the kiosk housing the machine, but did not damage the safe inside.
