Lorry driver killed, co-driver seriously injured in Karak Highway crash

A lory driver was killed, and his co-driver was grievously injured, when their vehicle rammed into another heavy transport on Kilometer 32.3 of the Karak Highway early yesterday morning.

Gombak district police chief ACP Ali Ahmad told Sinar Harian that the accident occured when the driver, 32-year old Norazizul Hussin, and his co-driver Hisham Hashim, 19, were en route from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur at 3.50am.

Initial investigations point to Norazizul’s lorry ramming another trailer while the vehicles were driving down a hillslope.

“The extreme impact caused the driver to be pinned down at the scene of the incident, in which he died. His associate was badly hurt, and was transported to the Sealyang Hospital,” Ali said.

“Police have not been able to locate or identify the vehicle that was rammed in the incident.”

Police are now looking for the other vehicle and its driver to assist in investigations.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
