Travel guide book publisher Lonely Planet has included a Malaysian state (yay!) in their ‘Top 10 ‘must visit’ regions in 2017′ list.
No, it’s not Penang.
Nope, it’s not Malacca.
And it is certainly not Kuala Lumpur.
The state that Lonely Planet recommended is none other than – drum rolls, please – Perak.
Lonely Planet recently published their Best In Travel list, and Malaysia’s Silver State got a nod. Perak, which is famous for its food and cave temples, occupied the ninth spot in the list.
Peru’s Choquequirao, New Zealand’s Taranaki, Portugal’s The Azores, United Kingdom’s North Wales, South Australia, Chile’s Ayse´n, French Polynesia’s The Tuamotus USA’s Coastal Georgia and Ireland’s Skellig Ring round up the top ten.

State Tourism, Arts, Culture, Multimedia and Communications exco Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi told The New Straits Times that the recognition was an honour for the state.
“This will especially help our promotion efforts globally to draw more visitors. Among the plus points listed by Lonely Planet include Ipoh’s uniqueness as a heritage and historical site. Its classic and vintage cafes are also touted as major draws.
“On the nature front, Perak is also known for its Royal Belum National Park and Pangkor Island,” she was quoted as saying.
Coincidentally, 2017 is Visit Perak Year and Nolee added that the recognition can be used to promote the state.
“A lot can still be done in preparation for Visit Perak Year 2017 including improving cleanliness and environmental sustainability to ensure that they can be used as elements to draw tourists,” she was further quoted as saying.
Previously, Lonely Planet ranked Ipoh, the capital city of Perak, number six in their ‘must visit cities’ list.
