The Limkokwing University of Cereative Technology (LUCT) might not be mentioned when people discuss the world’s most historied and prestigious varsities, but as far as Facebook Likes go, it’s pretty much in the top fifth percentile – even beating out Cambridge Univerity.
Having a presence on the world’s most popular social media site since late 2007, LUCT has become the 10th most-Liked university in the world on Facebook, with more than 802,000 Likes. This makes it the most-Liked university in Malaysia.
The UK’s Cambridge University, in contrast, is in 12th place on the list with almost 750,000 Likes.
The Malay Mail Online reports that LUCT integration vice-president Datuk Timothy Lim came across the finding on a website listing the top 15 universities with the most Facebook Likes.
“We have been trying to improve the quality of communication with our students all along,” he said.
“With this finding, we can now gauge how well we are doing in the social media world.”
Emboldened by the numbers, Lim said LUCT now aimed to double the number of Likes the university has received by the end of next year.
“We are fortunate to have a wide group of audience from 165 nations. This makes the Limkokwing community interesting,” he said.
“This is not something we have control over as it comes direct from the students who are Facebook users, and this makes it a great achievement.”
LUCT, founded by Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing in 1991, now has a presence in 12 countries worldwide; the university plans to open up another 17 campuses across the globe by 2020.
