Light wing aircraft crashes in Cameron Highlands vegetable farm

A light wing aircraft reportedly crashed in a vegetable farm in Cameron Highlands yesterday, leaving the pilot with minor injuries.

According to a Bernama report, the Gulfstream America G164B owned by the Subang-based Systematic Aviation Services (SAS Air Services) Sdn Bhd, crashed around 1.30pm Wednesday in Tringkap.

The pilot, Australian Peter Hardy, 56, sustained minor injuries to his left arm and parts of his body, the news agency reported.

“According to initial investigations, Boh Plantation at the Sungai Palas tea plantation in Brinchang has been using the service of SAS Air Services to drop fertilisers,” Cameron Highlands District Police chief DSP Zainalabidin Othman was quoted as saying.

The aircraft is believed to have go out of control at an altitude of 5,040 ft above sea level due to engine problems, Zainalabidin told Bernama, adding that a witness told authorities that the aircraft hovered mid-air before crashing on a hill slope.

“The witness claimed that while outside his house, he saw the aircraft’s engine halted and (it) spun twice before it crashed. He rushed to the scene which took five minutes from his house and found the victim safe,” he was quoted further.
