Police in Nilai received a letter, purportedly from terror group Islamic State, that was reportedly geared towards causing chaos in the country.
According to a New Straits Times report, the letter — which came in an envelope marked ‘IS Ancam’ (IS Threat) —was received on Monday afternoon and delivered by Pos Malaysia.
It reportedly contained images of nine prominent figures including Prime Minister Najib Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar, Attorney-General Mohamad Apandi Ali and Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
“We are probing the case thoroughly. However, we believe that this move is solely meant to create tension, and may have nothing to do with the Daesh,” Nilai police chief Superintendent Zaldino Zaludin told the daily.
According to the NST report, the letter claimed there were “316 members and four experts in Kuala Pilah”, “114 members and eight experts in Nilai” and “97 members and two experts” in Port Dickson, all reportedly in reference to IS operatives in Negri Sembilan.
