Legendary African group Tinariwen playing show in Kuala Lumpur in November

The original Tuareg rebel musicians, Tinariwen, are making a pit-stop in Kuala Lumpur on their world tour between dates in Bangladesh, and Shanghai.

Though tickets have yet to go on sale, a cheeky perusal of the band website indicates that they will be playing at KL Live Life Center on November 13.

Rising to international prominence in the mid-2000’s, the band has been playing their guitar-heavy blend of North African influenced music since the 70s’s. Many of the band’s original members were either trained rebels, fighting for Tuareg autonomy in Mali, or refugees displaced by the conflict Sahara.

They’ve referred to themselves as “military artists,” taking the plight of the battlefield onto the stage. The New Yorker wrote a comprehensive profile of the band in 2012 that is worth a read while you listen to their music, and wait for tickets to go on sale.
