Lee Chong Wei’s hilarious response to Lin Dan’s ‘love letter’

Those who were wishing that China badminton star Lin Dan’s heartfelt letter to Malaysian badminton hero Lee Chong Wei was real, we’re sorry to dissapoint you guys, but there was no such letter.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old Chong Wei told reporters during a press conference celebrating the Malaysian contingent’s return from the Rio Olympics that the letter was a fake and that he did not receive any note whatsoever from his greatest badminton rival.

“No. I never got any (letter). That was a lie.

“I never wrote any (letter), and he (Lin Dan) never wrote any letter,” he was quoted by The New Straits Times as saying.

Despite being close friends, it was absurd to think that Lin Dan would pen a letter to the Olympic Games silver medalist.

“Send letters… do they think we are lovers?,” he joked, sending reporters into a fit of laughter.

The “letter” — supposedly penned by Lin Dan after his semi-final defeat to Chong Wei — contained a touching tribute to the badminton legend and detailed his respect and admiration for the world number one.

The message quickly went viral online, and it managed to fool everyone into thinking that it was real.

The letter was later proven to be fake.
