A leaked video released by KiniTV depicts former Deputy Prime Minister relating to a group of people that Prime Minister Najib Razak admitted USD700 million (RM2.6 billion) was transferred into his personal bank accounts.
The 57-second video shows Muhyiddin sitting in mid-conversation with a large group of people, saying Najib admitted to receiving a transfer of “a lot, a lot” of money.
Muhyiddin is then heard relating how he asked Najib why the funds, which he then revealed to be to the sum of USD700 million (RM2.6 billion), was transferred to Najib’s bank accounts.
“He admitted,” Muhyiddin said.
“So I said why did you put into your personal account?”
The figure of USD700 million tallies with a report by The Wall Street Journal published on July 2 that alleged money in that amount was transferred from the coffers of sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) into Najib’s personal AmBank bank accounts in 2013, two months before the 13th General Elections.
Seen sitting next to him on the couch was Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, son of Najib’s most vocal detractor and former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, while sitting across from Muhyiddin was Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, a former UMNO veteran and now founder of the new IKATAN party.
