More than 21,000 people living in Hulu Langat district faced water supply disruption after a water treatment plant stopped operations on Tuesday morning.
According to Bernama, the Cheras Batu 11 plant had ceased operation because of lowering water levels at Sungai Langat — the water is reportedly below the minimum level.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS) Executive Director (Corporate Affairs), Priscilla Alfred Dharan was quoted as saying that landslides had caused reduced water flow which subsequently stopped the pumping system.
The landslide, she said, was caused by excavation work a short distance from the water treatment plant.
Among the affected areas were: Kawasan Perindustrian Cheras Jaya, Taman Impian Ehsan Seri Kembangan, Taman Desa Karunmas Seri Kembangan, Kampung Baru Balakong, Taman Kasturi Cheras, Taman Sri Indah Cheras, Taman Bukit Emas, Taman Cheras Jaya, Taman Impian Indah, Taman Taming Indah, Taman Sejati, Taman Seri Sungai Long, Taman Bukit Sungai Long, Rumah Kenangan Cheras, Taman Dutamas, Taman Setia Kasturi Cheras, AEON Cheras Selatan, Taman Industri Balakong Jaya, Taman Setia Balakong, Taman Sinaran, Kawasan Perniagaan Desaria Seri Kembangan and Taman Bukit Sungai Long.
Water supply is now being restored in stages.
