Here’s a piece of exciting news: we may soon have KTMB Komuter trains serving the northern states.
Bernama reports that the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) is now in the process of reviewing several ‘important matters’ related to the Nothern Komuter line — including its serving capacity — before giving the green light for operations.
“So far, KTMB has submitted the technical and operational documents required for approval from SPAD, and we (SPAD) have also sought additional information pertaining to service operations such as the provision of sufficient number of train coaches as we do not want the (new) service to have any adverse impact on existing commuter services in Kuala Lumpur,” SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar told the news agency.
“This is important because apart from the safety aspect, SPAD needs to ensure the large number of commuters in Kuala Lumpur will continue to enjoy good and reliable service when the Northern Komuter line begins its operations,” he was quoted further.
A picture of what was believed to be the Northern Line’s route map — displaying rail lines linking Gurun to Butterworth and Kamunting and went viral on social media on Sunday.
The image was uploaded by the RailTravel Station, which claimed that the map could be seen on several Klang Valley commuter trains at the moment.
