KTM train derails near Bank Negara station, disrupts Komuter service

A derailed train on one of KL’s main tracks has caused the disruption of Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Komuter services in the central sector.

In a statement released today, KTM said the cargo train, whicih was making its way from Padang Jawa to Chemor, Perak, derailed at 3.11am this morning between the Bank Negara and Kuala Lumpur stations.

The derailment caused four of the train’s 30 coaches to block the route of the Komuter train service.

KTM Komuter services will be adapted to work around the derailment, and will run as per the following temporary arrangements:

  • Sungai Gadut – Rawang route – the service will end at KL Sentral station.
  • Rawang – Sungai Gadut route – the service will end at the Kepong station.
  • Batu Caves – Port Klang route – the service ends at the Sentul station.
  • Port Klang – Batu Caves route – the service ends at KL Sentral station.

This effectively means that for the time being, there will be no train service to and from the Kuala Lumpur, Bank Negara, Putra, Sentul and Segambut stations.

“Repair work of the railway tracks is in progress and work on one of the railway track is expected to be ready by 1 pm tomorrow, and the others, by Sunday (Aug 10),” the statement reads.

KTM apologises for the inconvenience caused.
