Kota Kinabalu city hall to investigate alleged tourist peeing and defecation in public spaces

After two separate viral images of what witnesses say were tourists behaving badly, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah City Council has said that they will investigate.

The first, a Facebook user’s image of a child using Kota Kinabalu’s Imago shopping center mall rubbish bin as a toilet, with the assistance of an adult, began to circulate over the weekend. She warned her followers of touching public bins, as members of the public had no idea what could or could not have taken place on them.

A second post, a video purportedly shot in the same city, was of another child, along with two adults, defecating in an open-air parking lot. Local netizens believe is just outside the Center Point shopping center.

“We will check the close-circuit television (CCTV) recordings from Imago and Center Point malls,” city hall mayor Nordin Siman has said.

This is not the first time that tourists have found themselves in hot water with KK citizens and officials – last year a ban was imposed on visitors to a local mosque after a couple of tourists were spotted disrespecting the grounds by staging inappropriate photos in and around the religious building.
