Eighteen tourists and a tour bus driver were injured after the vehicle they were in skidded and overturned going down a steep road in Kota Belud, Sabah, yesterday afternoon. All of those in the bus sustained minor injuries.

Passengers were from a Korean tour group that included six girls, two boys, four men and six women, who were then taken to the nearby Kota Belud hospital for treatment after the 5:30pm incident.

Police suspect that the driver was under the influence of syabu at the time of the incident, as investigating officers spotted the man discarding objects into a nearby drain shortly after the incident. Recovering the items dropped, authorities confirmed that it was a red bad that contained syabu paraphernalia, as well as a small packet of what they believe to be methamphetamine. They believe that the driver had been using the illicit substances prior to taking the tourists from their resort on a sightseeing excursion.

Blood and urine samples from the driver have been taken, while authorities continue to investigate.
