Kopitiam manager sentenced to 175 years in prison for embezzlement

Try to wash that down with some hazelnut white coffee.

kopitiam manager was sentenced to a total of 175 years in prison by the Shah Alam Sessions Court today on 25 counts of embezzlement that left her employers RM130,000 in the hole.

Thankfully, the accused, 41-year old Heng Chai Lang was ordered to serve out all 25 prison terms concurrently, meaning she only(?) has to be in prison for seven years.

Sinar Harian reports that in his ruling, magistrate Zamri Bakar said that Heng’s defence consisted of nothing but unsubtantiated denials, and that her lawyers failed to raise a reasonable doubt on her complicity in the charges levelled against her.

Heng was accused of committing 25 separate acts of embezzlement between December 2010 and Feruari 2011 – quite a short period of time to accumulate RM130,000 in illegal kopi money.
