KL’s Deer Park is shutting down for good

If you’ve never been, this might be a good time to plan a trip with the kids: the Mousedeer Farm in KL’s Perdana Botanical Garden is about to be closed down.

The 1.2ha park, part of the Perdana Botanical Garden for some 30 years now, will be converted into a research centre for rare plant species, and the 52 animals currently housed in it will be transferred to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang.

KL Mayor Ahmad Phesal Talib told the New Straits Times that the DBKL decided to close down the Mousedeer Farm as the deer were destroying the park’s mature trees by sharpening their horns on the bark.

“The deer park is old but the trees are even older. We also sent the goats from our pen next to the park two years ago now the land is fertile for plant growth,” he said.

Well, we hope those curmudgeonly old trees are happy now. Have fun in your deer-free retirement home, you cranky trunks.
