KL Hospital and Fire Department staff scramble to remove metal ring from man’s ding-dong

Staff members from both the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) and the Fire and Rescue Department had to pry themselves away from heart attack patients and burning houses (we assume) to help one man overcome one very troubling, personal calamity: removing a metal ring from his scrotum.

At around 3.45pm yesterday, the KL Fire and Rescue Department received a call for assistance from HKL staff, asking if they could help remove the metal ring from the hapless victim’s unmentionables.

When Fire Department officers arrived at the hospital at 4.20pm, they had to resort to using industrial, genital-unfriendly tools such as pliers (and a tongue depressor!) to hold the man’s nether regions out of the way as they proceeded to cut the metal ring off.

“We tried to talk to him during the procedure but he was too embarrassed to speak. In my 29 years as a fireman, I’ve never seen such a situation before,” an officer participating in the procedure told The Star Online‘s Nicholas Cheng.

The entire operation took about 40 minutes, after which the man was finally free of his metal ding-dong encumbrance. We can’t be sure, but we’re willing to bet good money he suffered from a fair bit of post-op shrinkage.

Yikes.
